Top Dressing
Top Dressing can be performed at anytime during the growing season. For best results, we recommend the process be repeated several times.
The Benefits:
- Greatly improves your lawn appearance by smoothing the turf surface.
- Improves the health of the lawn and stimulates new growth.
- Increases drainage and water absorption which decreases the amount of water and fertilizer needed.
- Decreases thatch, susceptibility to disease and soil compaction.
- Improves grass thickness and durability.
The Process:
- Turf Preparation: The grass needs to be cut to a height of one and one-half inch or less.
- Core Aeration: The area to be top dressed is then core aerated. This allows the top dressing material to mix with the existing soil to promote root growth.
- Fertilization: A fertilizer is then applied at the ratio of one pound per 1000 square feet. This is a quick release fertilizer that does not interfere with regular maintenance fertilizers.
- Top Dressing: Top Dressing machinery is then used to apply an even metered layer of organic Top Dressing material throughout the area.
- Leveling: The turf area is then leveled by a dragging mat which pushes the material into the lower lying areas of the turf yielding a level surface.
- Clean Up: The entire job site will be left clean and free of debris.
